This blog post is all about goal setting tips.
Or setting goals can feel exciting, refreshing, and motivating! In this post, I'm covering goal setting tips that will make you excited to set goals for your blog!
GOAL SETTING TIPS
Why Set Goals
Setting goals provides direction, movement, motivation, accountability, a sense of accomplishment, and purpose to your daily, weekly, and monthly actions. Do you go into a grocery store and just wander the aisles putting whatever catches your eye into the cart for your weekly meals? No. Well, maybe you do, and that's a conversation for another day lol, but most people don't they have a plan for the grocery store.
You need goals, so your daily actions are leading your blog where you want it to land. I'm almost certain every blogger writes posts with the goal of gaining readers. Well, how do you attract those readers if you don't have actions that lead to that goal? This is why we set goals to direct our actions toward what we desire as an outcome of our work.
Set Goals That Motivate You
Create goals that excite you to work towards! I know this sounds crazy that you would do otherwise. However, it's simple to get caught up in what other bloggers are setting as their goals. Or thinking to be successful you need to follow what others do. Your goals are unique to you and your blog.
Visualize~ What Do You Want 2025 To Look Like
Seriously, close your eyes and picture what you want the next year to look like. Dream big! Need ideas?
- Money~ How much money will your blog make this year?
- Content~ What kind of content will you write? Do you intend to go a new direction? Want to start another successful blog?
- Email~ How big will your email list grow? Will you grow your opt-ins? Will you start a new sequence?
- Products~ Will you finally start that digital products business? Will you launch a course?
- Productivity~ Will you be more organized? If so how?
- Stats~ How many visitors will your blog get? How will you accomplish this and track it?
Brain Dump
Take out a piece of paper, pencil, or laptop, and just start writing all of the ideas that pop in your head for your blog. Write down everything that came to you in visualizing what 2025 will look like. Pro-tip set the timer for 10-15 minutes to write down as much as possible.
What Do You Really, Really Want To Achieve in 2025
Take your brain dump list and start marking the ones that you really want to accomplish in 2025. Pay close attention to the ones that excite you the most. Now, take these goals and put them on a new piece of paper titled 2025 Goals, grouping the ones that are similar or go together. For example, creating a new logo, branding, and a new blog theme can easily be grouped as one goal.
For the other goals on your original brain dump list that didn't make it to the 2025 list, put them all on a new sheet that is titled 2026 Goals! I know this seems so far away, but don't lose these dreams! As the year goes on and you have ideas that pop up in your head, jot them down on the 2026 goals.
Make A Plan
Now, it's time to decide what order to work on your goals. It may make sense to work on them in the order you wrote them down. Some of your goals may be seasonal, so it makes sense to work on them around that time.
More goal setting tips are to break your goals down by which month you will work on them. Have a sheet that lists all twelve months on it, and write down which goals you will work on in which month.
I like to work backward on my goals. So, I take the bigger goal and break that down into monthly actions. I also like to create possible obstacles that will prevent me from achieving the goal and steps to overcome those obstacles.
