Creating digital products is easier than it seems. The best part is that you only have to make them once and then sell them repeatedly.
After you read the tips I lay out today, you will feel prepared to create digital products of your own!
AMAZING TIPS ON HOW TO CREATE DIGITAL PRODUCTS
1. What Are Digital Products
Digital products are items that are created, sold online, and delivered electronically. You never have to ship products! You don't have to manage inventory! The best part is they can create passive income!
There are several different types of digital products. Such as ebooks, online courses, templates, printables, planners, fitness journals, budget spreadsheets, and software. There are even products that others create that you can purchase, and then you get master resell rights, meaning you can alter a few things to them and legally sell them as your own!
Depending on what your product niche is, will determine the type of digital products that you create. If you're not quite sure what your niche is I have a blog post that goes into more detail 3 Essential Tips on Starting a Digital Products Business.

2. Tools for Creating Digital Products
I couldn't possibly list every single tool available to aid in the process of creating digital products. I have listed a few tools used by the type of digital product that is being created.
Once you have narrowed down your niche, research what tools other creators are using. Most of these tools have free trials, so you can physically play around with them to see how you like them.
- ebooks: Google Docs, Visme, Keynote
- Online Courses: Udemy, Teachable, Thinkific, Kajabi
- Graphic Design: Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma
- Stock Photos/Videos: Unsplash, Midjourney, Elevave Visuals, Creative Fabrica
- Software Development: Github, Visual Studio Cut, Android Studio
- Video and Audio Production: Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Audacity
- Templates: Canva, Pic Money, Apple Pages, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Thrive Themes
3. Investing in Your Growth
When I created my Etsy store, I had to use Google and YouTube for much of the process. I did invest in myself by taking courses by other successful digital creators.
Make sure that you invest in courses that align with the platform and/or digital product you will be using. It wouldn't be very beneficial to invest in a course on how to create online courses if you're selling planners.
I knew I was going to use Etsy as my platform, so I purchased Kate Hayes Etsy Income Academy. I also invested in The Etsy Listing Photos Course with Dina Lu. This YouTube tutorial gave me step-by-step instructions on how to create digital products using Canva.
These two courses, along with YouTube tutorial videos, are exactly how I became confident in creating digital products. If your budget doesn't allow you to pay for courses yet, that is okay! You can still have a very successful business with free training.
4. Mistakes to Avoid When Creating
Digital Products
- Not Validating Idea: It's easy to jump all in on creating digital products without doing proper market research. Take the proper time in researching to ensure you have a product that will sell.
- Overcomplicating Your Product: Don't try to create the most comprehensive and complicated product. This can run into burnout before your business even begins.
- Pricing too Low: Pricing too low can make customers think your product doesn't have the same value as your competitors. Resulting in not making any sales.
- Ignoring Customer Feedback: After you have launched, getting feedback can be both exciting and hard to hear. However, not applying that constructive criticism will be harmful to your business in the long run.
- Comparison: Comparing your products and business to others that have been in the race longer will detour you quicker than quicksand.
